Belkin BoostCharge Power Bank 20K

Buying guide: Belkin BoostCharge Power Bank 20K

A 20,000mAh backup battery for topping up a phone, earbuds or other USB devices when you are away from a socket. This guide is based on Belkin's published product information. Samori Systems has not tested this power bank.

At a glance

• 20,000mAh internal battery for everyday backup charging.
• Two USB-A ports and one USB-C port, so up to three devices can be connected.
• Up to 15W in total, shared across the ports when more than one is in use.
• USB-A to USB-C cable included, with LED lights showing the battery level.

Who it suits

• People who want one backup battery for a phone, earbuds or a similar small device on long days out or trips.
• Households that want to top up two or three devices from one battery, accepting that they share the output.
• Buyers who prefer a larger-capacity battery to a pocket-sized one and do not mind the extra size and weight that usually come with it.

When to consider another model

• You want the fastest possible charging. The USB-C port is rated up to 15W, and that is the most the whole power bank delivers at once.
• You want to charge a laptop. Belkin lists up to 15W maximum output, which is below what many laptops need. Check your laptop's charger wattage before buying any power bank.
• You want something smaller and lighter. Belkin also offers a 10K version of this power bank. Compare size, weight and price on Belkin's page.

Capacity: internal versus delivered

The 20,000mAh figure is the capacity of the battery inside the power bank. The amount that reaches your device is lower, because some energy is lost when the power bank converts and transfers it. Belkin states that the amount delivered to a device is less than the internal capacity and varies with conditions. How many times it can recharge your phone depends on your phone's battery size, how you use it while charging and the cable you use, so treat any "number of charges" claim as an estimate.

Ports, shared output and cables

• Belkin lists two USB-A ports at up to 12W each and one USB-C port at up to 15W.
• The power bank delivers up to 15W in total. When you charge more than one device at once, that output is shared, so each device charges more slowly than it would alone.
• A USB-A to USB-C cable is included. Devices with a different connector, such as Lightning or micro-USB, need their own cable.
• Belkin's quoted charge times use a USB-C to USB-C cable, which is not included in the box.
• The output figures on this page are for the wired ports.
